Associació d'Acció Social DISCAN

The "Associació d'Acció Social DISCAN" is a non-profit organisation registered as number 34975 in section 1a of the Registry of Barcelona.

The AAS DISCAN was created with the will to promote the autonomy of disabled people in order to facilitate their social and employment integration, collaborating with the identified needs in the “plan of action of European advice for the promotion of the rights and complete participation of people with a disability in society”, from the 5th May 2006, for that which disabled people must be able to live in the most independent way possible, and integrated into society (action line number 8: life in society).

The AAS DISCAN is directed towards all those with disabilities, who could see their quality of life increasing their independence and, therefore, reducing their dependence,

regardless of their age, sex, race or social situation, taking into account that the proportion of people with disabilities in Europe, is understood as being between 10 and 15%, and the main causes of this are illness, accidents and old age.

Today, the AAS DISCAN offers their services, not only to a collective of disabled people, but also to people who are at risk of social exclusion, whatever the situation.

Currently, the AAS DISCAN does not have its own headquarters, since:

  • Assistant dogs are always in family homes, already belonging to social workers, trainers or users.
  • The dogs used for therapy live with their owners, who are technical therapists, and who make up the dog assistance team.
  • The horses lives in the Centro Ecuestre Can Comas (Can Comas Equestrian Centre), with whom we maintain a cooperation agreement-a connection in terms of the carrying out of therapeutic activities and training with horses.
